Dourabo (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is operated by Nerddevs. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information when you use the Dourabo mobile application and website (together, the “Service”).
By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- Display name
- Profile photo (if signing in with Google)
- Authentication method (Google or email/password)
1.2 Usage data
We collect information about how you interact with the Service, including:
- Events you track and their statuses (Registered, Planning to Register, Completed)
- Reminder preferences you configure for tracked events
- App settings such as theme preference
1.3 User-uploaded content
When you mark an event as Completed, you may optionally upload:
- Digital race certificates
- Photos from the event
This content is stored on our servers and associated with your account.
1.4 Device information
We collect limited device information necessary to deliver push notifications, including a push notification token that identifies your device to our notification provider.
1.5 Location information
Dourabo collects precise location (GPS) data, but only while you are actively tracking a race. See Section 4 — Location and race tracking for full details, including background collection.
Outside of an active race, we do not collect device location. Filtering events by city or district is based only on selections you make manually within the Service.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account
- Display and sync your tracked events across sessions
- Record your route, distance, pace, and time during a race you choose to track
- Schedule and deliver reminders for events you are tracking
- Store and display your uploaded certificates and photos
- Send push notifications for reminders and platform announcements
- Maintain the security and integrity of the Service
- Comply with legal obligations
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We never use your location data for advertising, and we never share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We share information only in the following circumstances:
3.1 Service providers
We rely on a small number of trusted third-party providers to operate the Service. They act only on our instructions, may use your data solely to provide their service to us, and are contractually obligated to protect it. These fall into the following categories:
- Authentication — to verify your identity when you sign in.
- Push notification delivery — to send reminders and announcements to your device.
- Hosting, storage, and database infrastructure — to run our servers and store your account data, tracked events, race activities, and uploaded media.
You may request the identity of the providers we currently use by contacting us at the address below.
3.2 Legal requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities such as a court or government agency.
3.3 Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Location and Race Tracking
Race tracking is an optional feature. It runs only when you explicitly tap Start Tracking for an event, and it stops when you finish or discard the session.
4.1 What we collect
While a race is being tracked, we collect precise GPS coordinates at regular intervals to build your route and calculate live distance, pace, and elapsed time. These coordinates are stored with the race activity on your account so you can review your route afterwards.
4.2 Background collection
Races are long, and runners typically keep the phone in a pocket or armband. So that your run is not lost, Dourabo continues to record your location in the background — with the screen off or the app closed— for the duration of an active race. On Android, a persistent notification (“Tracking your race”) remains visible the entire time location is being recorded. On iOS, the system location indicator is shown.
Before we request location permission, the app shows a disclosure explaining this background collection. You may decline, in which case race tracking will not start.
4.3 Limits on use
- Location is collected only during an active race, never otherwise.
- Location is used only to record your route and running statistics.
- Location data is never sold, shared for advertising, or used to profile you.
4.4 Your control
You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. Doing so disables race tracking but does not affect your account, tracked events, or any other feature. You may delete a recorded activity, and its route data, by deleting the associated race from your archive or by requesting account deletion.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information, usage data, and recorded race activities for as long as your account is active. Uploaded media (certificates and photos) are retained until you delete them or delete your account.
You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
6. Security
We implement industry-standard measures to protect your data, including HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, secure token-based authentication, and role-based access controls on our backend.
No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we may have collected such information, please contact us.
8. Your Rights
You may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated data
- Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent for location collection or push notifications at any time through your device settings
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.
9. Push Notifications
The Service uses push notifications to deliver reminders for events you are tracking. You can disable push notifications at any time through your device’s notification settings. Disabling notifications does not affect your account or tracked events.
10. Third-Party Links
Event pages may include links to external registration websites operated by third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page or by sending a notification through the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
